Hybrid Driving Clinic and Championship Saturday
The second annual Hybrid Driving Clinic and Championship will be held at 10 am Saturday, October 21 at Honda Motorwerks in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
During the first part of the event, Hybrid Guru Chris Schneider will be offering tips on how to get the best mileage from your hybrid vehicle. Following Chris? demonstration on top hybrid driving techniques, hybrid owners and other interested participants will get to test their techniques to see who wins the hybrid driving championship. Drivers will compete against others driving similar vehicles, such as Honda?s Insight, Civic and Accord.
The Championship was founded after a Consumer Reports article that said hybrids weren?t getting as much mileage as they were supposed to based on EPA estimates. David Champion, senior director of the magazine?s auto test center, was responsible for the article, so he was invited to drive a car to get as poor of mileage as he reported. Mr. Champion did not attend last year and has been invited to attend again this year. Honda Motorwerks has offered to pay for Mr. Champion?s flight and lodging this year.
?Our experience with hybrids at Honda Motorwerks has shown us something substantially different than what Mr. Champion reported. We want to have a chance to illustrate that. Generally speaking, we think Mr. Champion and Consumer Reports has done a great deal of good for the public. We simply think that they missed the mark with hybrids and want to show them the truth,? Schneider said.
Honda Motorwerks recently sold its 500th hybrid vehicle and has sold more pre-owned hybrids than any other dealership in the country.
