Freedom
The automobile's impact on society has been enormous, bringing new freedom of travel to individuals and opening wide areas of the country to business and residential use. But, it has also created concerns over air quality, depletion of natural resources and climate changes. Reducing the impact of the automobile on society is one of Honda's guiding principles, and the Honda Insight is the first car of the 21st century to address these concerns. Honda Motorwerks is dedicated to educating the Tri-state region to the benefits of hybrid technology in an effort to help them invest in transportation that provides remarkably high fuel economy with ultra low emissions.
The opportunities the automobile has given Americans are almost too numerous to pinpoint. Trips to the doctor, dentist, grocery store, soccer field, vacations and work place are important examples of the myriad of uses which have propelled the American economy to worldwide prominence. Birdwatchers, bikers, fishermen, hunters and surfers have all been able to advance their causes by access to locations formerly unavailable. Mobility provides employers a wider range of workers and workers have a greater choice of jobs.
Air, land and water quality have all been impacted by the automobile. Although improvements have been made in the last few decades, much more can be done. Reducing or eliminating emissions has been and will continue to be a prominent Honda goal. Recycle ability of vehicles and flexibility of plants can reduce the impact on our lands. Innovative new painting techniques improve our water quality.
If we want to continue to enjoy our transportation freedoms, we must make a concerted effort to learn and use the best principles and resources available. Walk when you can, ride your bike more often and choose an automobile for how it contributes to the quality of your life. For someone to choose a 4 wheel drive vehicle rather than front wheel drive for the 2 or 3 days a year they may need it, is NOT the correct choice. Call a taxi or rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle for the day or do as they would have before cars and take a weather day! Why choose another multiple seat vehicle for commuting when your family has a multiple seat vehicle for family trips? Conserving when investing in transportation will help conserve the environment.
